Fall Transition

It's the time of year now where our bright colored clothes seem too summery, but our winter staples are too dark and gloomy. Fear not! It's easy to find a happy medium between the two during this in-between month. I decided to pair my kelly green pants with my dark gray long sleeve tee to contrast the light and dark hues. Then, by adding a pop of color with the scarf, the outfit gets a little warmth but maintains the boldness.

But that's enough of this color nonsense, more importantly I need to decide which shoes I want to get for the quickly approaching holiday season! Updates from my search will come later...

Charleston Photo Diary pt. One

First stop in Charleston, South Carolina was down by the water to see this awesome pineapple fountain. Psych anyone? But as we headed to Rainbow Row, a rainstorm caught us off guard and I got soaked to the bone. Still, the brightly colored houses made for a beautiful walk down the street. Luckily I dried enough before dinner to show off my new neon lace tube top--three things that I never imagined together--but it's my new fave summer piece.

Street Sense

Part one of my spring break journey--first stop in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Not exactly the most happenin' place in the country, but it has that certain homey and city feel at the same time. I loved all of the murals and artwork scattered on the streets; see me blooming among the flowers? I think I fit right in.

Green Jeans

H&M pants, Nordstrom shirt, Madewell tank, Sperry Topsiders, Coach Poppy wristlet, vintage belt.

This just in: kelly green is the new denim. I've seen it everywhere now-- Atlantic-Pacific, J. Crew, and H&M. Dull colors are a thing of the past this spring! Even the tired and true Gap neutrals have taken a colorful new twist this season; they've introduced their own brightly hued jeans. 

Instead of going with the obvious springtime color combos-- light blue, pink, yellow...I wanted to choose an unexpected color combination. Green and red are complementary colors, but it can be hard to combine them without looking like a Christmas tree. Since both of the shades I used were not the traditional dark green and deep red, the two bright colors complement each other perfectly. To tone it down I added a neutral shirt, and spiced the outfit up with some color coordinated jewelry. 

Happy Valentine's Day! In my mind, today is the only day that where it is acceptable to wear pink and red together, and I took full advantage of it.

Party Animal

Silence & Noise sequin dress, H&M pants

I don't particularly consider myself to be a party animal. Don't get me wrong--I'm always up for going out, but  I'm definitely not a hardcore partygoer. But this bedazzled dress helps me to channel that hidden cheetalicious side of me! It was an unusual buy for me, but I got it for my outfit in the fashion show that I'm going to be in this weekend. It's run by my school, but for an amateur production it is close to professional. Hair and makeup artists from Paul Mitchell will come to do our hair and makeup in the morning. Mine will look something like this:

Hair: Ponytail bump

Makeup: Metallic smokey eye & light lipstick

As for the pants, they were just an impulse buy. But one that I am very proud of! More on them later...

It's not easy being green....er Jane.

Trying to work on my winter layering look, but came out with mixed results. Let me know what you think of the tank over the shirt? High-fashion or high-school? Well I'm taking that line from the new ABC Family TV show "Jane By Design".

The show revolves around a high school girl named Jane Quimby...really.. Quimby. She is a high schooler who applies for a fashion internship but mistakenly gets the job of assistant to the designer. It has been running for about three weeks now and I've heard mixed results. Personally, I felt like it could have had potential as a fun guilty pleasure show, however there is major umph lacking in the fashion department. She wears things like this...

and has a friend with six extra inches of hair

I suppose that style is supposed to be expressive and individual in order to reflect who you really are "deep down"... but to me that means that Jane is really a fluffy Kermit the Frog trapped inside a leather straight jacket. That's not the type of person I want to continuously be around.

Despite the initial turn offs, the show still has time to improve! Hopefully it will become less iCarly and more Gossip Girl-esque.
